Introducing Tiaki Wai

Safe, reliable and sustainable water services for metropolitan Wellington communities

Tiaki Wai is the new organisation that will deliver water services across Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt, and Wellington cities from 1 July 2026.

Our first draft Water Services Strategy is currently out for public feedback. You have until 22 April to let us know what you think.

For now, if you have any immediate water issues, please get in touch with your council.

For more information about Tiaki Wai, see our frequently asked questions.

Tiaki Wai means 'caring for water'.

Metropolitan Wellington

People living and working within the boundaries of Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils are served by an interconnected water system. Drinking water from the Hutt Valley supplies the whole area and communities covered by different councils share the same wastewater treatment plants.

Our goal is to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, environmentally and financially sustainable water services so the region can be resilient, restore te mana o te wai and enable new homes and the well-being of communities.
