You can expect to be billed by Hutt City Council for your water usage up to 30 June 2026 based on either an actual or estimated reading. Tiaki Wai will then start invoicing for water used from 1 July 2026.

Tiaki Wai account numbers

Each property will be allocated a unique Tiaki Wai water service account number, shown on the water service bill. This account number must be used when making payment, to make sure payments are allocated to the correct property.

Tiaki Wai water service account numbers will be different to council rate account numbers or property valuation numbers.

Properties with an existing water meter that receive metered water bills from council will also be allocated a water usage account number. This will be different to the council metered water account number reference.

Ways to pay

Payble

Hutt City Council has recently introduced Payble, a simple and flexible way to manage rates payments. Payble will also be available for Tiaki Wai bills, either by scanning the unique QR code on the Tiaki Wai bill or going to the Tiaki Wai Payble payment page (which will be published at a later date).

There is no extra charge to use Payble and it’s quick and easy to:

  • Choose how to pay – full or part payments
  • Decide what day to make payments (for example to align with your pay day)
  • View balances and upcoming payments
  • Set up a personalised payment schedule
  • Access and update your payment information any time, anywhere

Online banking

Tiaki Wai bills can be paid directly through banks’ online banking service. In online banking, from 1 July, you'll be able to set up Tiaki Wai as a payee. Tiaki Wai has a separate bank account to Hutt City Council and payments cannot be transferred between the two organisations.

For water services bills the registered payee is: Tiaki Wai Hutt City – Water Services

When making payments, please use the water services account number (shown on the bill) as the reference.

For the water usage bill (if metered), use this payee: Tiaki Wai Hutt City – Water Usage

When making payments for metered properties, please use the water usage account number (shown on the bill) as the reference.

If paying from overseas, contact your bank if you need further information.

Phone banking

Your Tiaki Wai invoice will contain the details to process this type of payment.
